Elephants are the world’s largest land mammals, besides humans, chimpanzees and Gorillas, elephants are considered to be the most intelligent animal.

  1. African bush elephant can weigh up to 7000 kg and standing 3.5 M tall at the shoulder.
  2. The gestation period of an elephant is 22 months, and in most case they gives a birth to one  offspring. They only give birth two or three times in a decade, and they are known to have a longest lactation period.
  3. Elephants have tusks, these are elongated incisors like teeth embedded deep in their heads, The larger the tusk the older the elephants, Elephant with the huge sized tusked , is considered to be the oldest one.
  4. The oldest female elephant in a group is always a leader of the herd. They live in a herds consisting of females and calves, It’s very rare a bull elephant is allowed in a group of females elephants.
  5. Elephants hate noises.
  6. Elephants use their ears to regulate their  temperature,  by flipping their ears side to side , the heat is radiated away from their body.
